Recently, I accidentally dropped my smartphone, causing a small crack in the screen. To make matters worse, it got water-damaged, rendering the touch functionality completely unusable. Remote control was not an option this time, as I couldn’t unlock the phone or start the necessary software. However, since the smartphone’s operating system is Android, I decided to try operating it with a mouse. Here’s how you can do it.
1. Assessing the Situation
After dropping my smartphone and cracking the screen, it unfortunately got water-damaged as well, making the touch function completely inoperative. I initially attempted to recover control through remote access, but because I couldn’t unlock the phone or start the required software, this method was not feasible.
2. Suggestion: Operating with a Mouse
Fortunately, Android smartphones support the connection of external devices, allowing them to be controlled with a mouse. I decided to use this method as an emergency measure. It’s a highly effective solution when the touchscreen becomes unresponsive.
3. Preparing the Necessary Items
Before attempting this method, make sure you have the following items ready:
- USB Mouse (either wireless or wired)
- Smartphone charging cable (usually a Type-C cable)
- USB Adapter (Type-C to USB-A adapter)
The USB adapter is necessary to connect the USB mouse to your smartphone’s Type-C port. If you don’t have an adapter, you can purchase one online, such as from Yahoo Shopping.
4. Connecting the Mouse and Operating the Smartphone
- First, connect the USB adapter to the Type-C port on your smartphone.
- Then, connect the USB mouse to the adapter.
Once properly connected, a mouse pointer should appear on your smartphone’s screen. You can use this pointer to unlock your phone and operate apps as needed.
By using this method, I was able to enter the passcode using the mouse, allowing me to regain control of my smartphone. Additionally, I could scroll through the screen by dragging with the mouse, and even bring down the notification bar.
5. Important Notes and Additional Tips
There are a few important things to consider with this method. First, if your smartphone is completely non-functional or if the USB port is damaged, this method may not work. Additionally, some smartphone models may not recognize the connection of external devices. In such cases, other methods may need to be considered.
Before trying this solution, ensure your smartphone’s battery is sufficiently charged. Connecting external devices can cause the battery to drain more quickly, so it’s important to start with a full charge.
Upon correctly connecting everything, a mouse pointer appeared on the smartphone’s screen. I was relieved to find that I could operate the phone using the mouse, starting with entering the passcode. This allowed me to regain control of my device. I was even able to scroll through the screen by dragging the mouse and bring down the notification bar, which further reassured me.
